CGBR is alerting members of two local real estate scams of two different.
One is a “Home for Rent” scam on Craigslist. Please make sure your rental properties are not listed on sites where they should not be visible. And if you find a your listing improperly posted, you are advised to contact Craigslist and then report the issue to State Police, who are investigating these situations.
In another reported instance, there is a person in the Greene County area who is representing himself as a real estate agent, and he is not on the DOS website as a licensee. The father of this scammer, a handyman, may also be involved. They have gone so far as to contact homeowners in an effort to show the property. The State Police in Greene County have been contacted.
Keeping yourself, your clients and their properties safe is of the utmost importance. Please take precautions to ensure that your sellers or buyers know to contact you as their agent, to confirm the legitimacy of a request to show a property.
If you do not know the agent, check to see if they are listed the CGND-MLS or on the New York State DOS Licensure page.
